Posted on Monday, May 14, 2012 9:42am

A search is underway for a former USC, and NFL football star who disappeared while hiking in Ventura County yesterday.

Erik Affholter was dropped off near the Metrolink Station on the 5000 block of Los Angeles Avenue, in Simi Valley around 10 yesterday morning, to go for a hike. When he failed to return, his girlfriend called Simi Valley Police just before 10 last night.

Police say the 46 year old man is an avid hiker, but was unfamiliar with hiking trails in the area.

Affholter played for USC, as well as the Green Bay Packers. He was wearing a USC sweatshirt, black sweatpants, and carrying a backpack at the time he was last seen, but didn’t have a cell phone with him at the time of his disappearance.
