Legislation authored by a Ventura County state assemblyman which is designed to make it easer for Californians in the military to vote while they are stationed overseas has been approved by a key assembly committee.
Republican Assemblyman Jeff Gorell of Camarillo is backing AB 1929, which would allow the Secretary of State to allow e-mail voting for military members stationed overseas
Traditional paper mail ballots are sometimes lost, or delayed when service members are in remote overseas locations, affecting as many as half of the ballots sent through conventional channels.
The State Assembly Elections and Redistricting Committee gave its approval to the proposal yesterday. A number of states already allow the electronic voting.
