Fees for vehicle impounding in the City of Thousand Oaks have been reduced, after a Grand Jury report said that a part of what had been charged to help pay for an educational program was improper.
The City had the highest impound fee in the County, at $300, with $80 of the fee going to pay for an educational program for teenager drivers. The Grand Jury report says the state vehicle code doesn’t permit the fee.
In the wake of the Grand Jury report, the city stopped charging the fee, and this week, the City Council formally acted to reduce the impound charge to $220.
People who paid the fee during the more than two years it was in effect will receive letters about how they can get refunds.
