The State Board of Education is scheduled to look at a proposal today to clear the way for an election over unification of an elementary, and a high school district in Ventura County.
The plan calls for merging the Santa Paula Elementary, and High School Districts.
A community group has been pushing the idea, which is intended to both improve the continuity of education for the community’s children, and save money through more efficiency in operations.
The idea has been a controversial one among members of the two school boards, although the boards haven’t taken official stands on the proposal.
If the State Board of Education gives its approval in Sacramento today, it would set the stage for the district’s voters to decide the question on the November ballot.
