Oxnard Man Accused Of Trying To Shoot Police Officer

Posted on Monday, May 7, 2012 12:33am

An Oxnard man is behind bars in Ventura County this morning, accused of trying to kill a police officer, as well as armed robbery.

Ventura County Sheriff’s investigators say that just before nine Saturday night, Jose Luis Ortiz robbed a business on the 2900 hundred block of Vineyard Avenue, in Oxnard.

An Oxnard police officer responding to the scene saw the 41 year old man at a nearby street corner. Investigators say when the officer tried to contact Ortiz, the man responded by opening fire with a handgun. The officer was unhurt.

The Oxnard officer’s K-9 partner attacked, and subdued Ortiz, who was taken to a local hospital for treatment of bite wounds, and then booked into the Ventura County Jail.
