Man FBI Calls Serial Bank Robber Arrested In Connection With Oxnard Incident

Posted on Monday, May 7, 2012 12:30am

The FBI, working with other law enforcement agencies say they’ve arrested an Inland Empire man for a string of bank robberies, including one in Ventura County.

Michael Franks was taken into custody at his Riverside home on Friday. Investigators think he is a man they dubbed the “Snowboarder Bandit”, who was called that of the ski hat and sunglasses he wore as a disguise each time he robbed a bank.

The 11 robberies attributed to the bandit include one at the Bank Of The West branch on the 300 block of West Esplanade Drive in Oxnard last week. In that robbery, a man gave a teller a note claiming he had a gun, and demanding money. The teller complied, and the man escaped. No one was hurt.

Authorities say that so far, they’ve linked the 39 year old man to at least three of the Southern California bank robberies tied to the “Snowboarder Bandit”.
