The Conejo Valley has seen a nearly 200% increase in opiate based overdoses in the last three years, and the trend is continuing this year.
The number of opiate related overdoses in the Conejo Valley alone soared from 77 in 2009, to 217 in 2011. Heroin, and prescription drug abuse are rising in many parts of the country.
Tonight, law enforcement, medical, and behavioral health experts will take part in a community forum on the problem at the
Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. They’ll talk about the problem, how to identify someone who may be addicted, and how, and where to seek help.
The free 6:30 p.m. event is open to the public.
