The Santa Barbara City Council is set to get an update tomorrow on a new hospital helipad in the city which is helping to save lives, but isn’t making some of its neighbors very happy.
As part of a massive rebuilding project, Cottage Hospital added a helipad, which allows critically injured, or ill people to be flow to the facility in circumstance when minutes could make a big difference.
The helipad has been much busier than expected with dozens of flights since opening February 5th.
During its first week alone, there were 13 flights, including five between 10 p.m., and 5 a.m., leaving some neighbors upset over noise.
Hospital officials have been meeting with area residents about the concern, and say they’ve talked to helicopter operators about issues like flights paths, to try to minimize the disturbance.
The hospital is scheduled to update the Santa Barbara City Council on the situation when the council meets at 2 p.m. tomorrow.
