UC Santa Barbara says it has the largest pool of applicants to attend school as freshmen there in its history.

More than 54,000 students applied to be a part of the 2012 fall class.

UCSB offered spots to just under half of the applicants, about 23,000 students, with the freshman class expected to end up at around 4400 students.

The campus is still reviewing applications from more than 13,000 current college students seeking to transfer to UCSB.

The UC system as a whole received a record 160,000 applications for fall of 2012, with 126,000 from freshmen applicants, and the rest transfer students.
