A retired U.C. Santa Barbara economics professor and his wife have made a million dollar gift to the university, to honor a longtime friend, and fellow member of the department who died in 2008.
Walter and Thelma Mead are creating the new Alex Alexander Chair in Economics.
The money will create an endowed chair, to try to ensure the department can continue to attract, and keep top notch professors.
The Meads had previously donated a million dollars to the department for an endowed chair in Walter Mead’s name.
