Santa Barbara Police Identify Man Shot By A Homeowner As They Say He Tried To Break Into Home

Authorities are now identifying a man who was shot by a Santa Barbara homeowner as police say he was trying to break into a house.

The incident started just after four a.m Wednesday morning, when a woman heard, and then saw a man outside of her home on the 900 block of West Pedregosa Street, and warned him to leave. The man left, and went into a neighbor’s yard.

He knocked on the front door, asking for money, but after he was told to leave, he went to the house’s back patio.
Polce say the 33-year old Santa Barbara man then tried to kick in some French doors, and threw objects at the windows, breaking some of them.

Fearing for his family’s safety, one of the homeowners shot the intruder, identified as William Cavit Blair, in the leg with a rifle. The wound wasn’t life threatening. The 33 year old man is facing assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, prowling, vandalism charges. Police say he has a criminal record, and is on unsupervised probation.
