Warning Over Bomb Threat In Ventura County Confused By Some As Tsunami Warning

Posted on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 1:59pm

A message about an evacuation involving a college campus in Ventura County apparently caused a lot of confusion today.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services says text, and reverse 9-1-1 messages went out to around 5700 hundred people on a Ventura County Community College District list around 11 a.m.

It warned of a bomb threat at Oxnard College. But, the Sheriff’s Department says some people didn’t understand the message, and some thought that because of a massive earthquake in Indonesia this morning, it was a tsunami warning.

The Office of Emergency Services says no tsunami warnings of any type were sent out.
ome Oxnard College classes were disrupted late this morning because of the threat, but no bomb was found, and classes resumed in the afternoon.
