Ventura firefighters, and the Ventura Harbor Patrol rescued a swimmer who underestimated how hard it would be for him to swim from shore to the end of the Ventura Pier and back.
It happened just before 7:30 last night. Bystanders on the pier saw a man in the water yelling for help. They called 911.
A Ventura Fire Department rescue swimmer decided the 19-year-old man needed immediate help, and jumped off the pier to keep the victim afloat until a Harbor Patrol boat could reach the scene. He was treated for possible hypothermia.
