A new study shows that Ventura, and Santa Barbara Counties continue to rank much higher than most of the state when it comes to public health.
The Robert Wood Johnson-University of Wisconsin Population Institute report says Ventura County ranked 16th in the state in overall health outcomes, and Santa Barbara County 19th.
Ventura County improved from 17th, to 16th, while Santa Barbara County slipped from 18th, to 19th.
In the area of premature death, Ventura County remained 9th in the state from year to year, while, Santa Barbara County slipped from 13th in 2011, to 15th.
The study looks at overall health issues, and specific areas like diet, tobacco use, and the quality of medical care.
It’s intended for use by health officials to assess the state of their programs, and to help identify areas for improvement.
