A South Coast community is getting a more than 900-thousand dollar state grant to help build a new neighborhood park.

The City of Goleta received the money from the California State Parks Office of Grants, and Local Services for a new neighborhood park in Old Town Goleta.

The City bought four acres of land near the corner of Hollister, and Kellogg Avenues last summer, and is in the process of designing the park.

Goleta was among 64 state grant winners, from a pool of more than 400 applicants seeking a total of $1.3 billion dollars. Goleta received the full $910,000 it requested.

This Saturday, the city is holding a tour of the site beginning at 9 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. workshop at the Goleta Valley Community Center.
