Santa Barbara City College Narrows Field For New Superintendent/President

Posted on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 4:45pm

Santa Barbara City College trustees say they’ve narrowed the field to four finalists for the position of Superintendent/President, to fill the post created by the controversial removal of the college’s top official last year.

All four of the finalists are presidents of community colleges in California.

The list includes Dr. Lori Gaskin, the President of West Valley College; Dr. Willard Lewallen, the President of West Hills College; Eloy Oakley, the Superintendent/President of the Long Beach Community College District; and David Viar, the President of American River College. Trustees are planning to make a final decision in the next month.

The Santa Barbara City College board put Andreea Serban on paid administrative leave last year. The trustees never fully explained the action, but it was known there were wide differences between the trustees, and Serban on management style.
