Coast Guard Auxiliary Set To Launch Parachute Flare Off Santa Barbara County Coast For Drill

Posted on Monday, March 26, 2012 1:12pm

The Coast Guard Auxiliary is planning to hold a drill off of the Santa Barbara coastline Monday afternoon (3/26) which might catch the attention of people, because it involves an airborne flare.

As part of a training drill, the parachute flare will be shot in the sky above Leadbetter Beach. It could be visible for one to two minutes before landing in the ocean. Santa Barbara Police are alerting the community to the drill, which is set to take place between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m., so people don’t mistake it for a real emergency, and call 911.
