South Coast Officials Say There’s No Tsunami Threat in Region From Quake In Mexico

Posted on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 4:05pm

Emergency services officials on the South Coast closely watched the aftermath of this morning’s strong earthquake in Mexico, which damaged hundreds of homes in that nation.

Local officials say they were concerned about the potential for tsunami activity, but that seismologists say that it didn’t turn out to be a threat for Hawaii, or the West Coast.

Despite some reports of minor damage, flights from California to Mexico have been unaffected.

The 7.4 magnitude quake was centered about 120 miles from Acapulco.
