Downtown Ventura could become a hot spot for outdoor concerts, under a proposal which received conceptual approval last night from the Ventura City Council.
The Ventura Botanical Gardens wants to use a parking lot above Ventura’s City Hall to stage several concerts during the summer, and fall.
Boosters say they would be able to host just under two thousand concertgoers at the proposed site, which would be covered with a huge tent.
Public safety officials are still reviewing the proposal to try to insure there’s adequate emergency access in and out of the site, because there’s just one main road into the area.
The Fire Department is bringing in an outside consultant to look at the safety issue.
If access turns into too big of a problem, planners say they have an alternate site for at least this year, which is a lot at Santa Clara and Junipero Streets, in downtown Ventura.
