A Ventura County community is moving to ban single use plastic gas at stores, and to start charging for paper ones, to try to discourage their use.
The Ojai City Council gave preliminary approval to an ordinance which would ban commonly used plastic bags, except for at restaurants.
Paper bags could come with a ten cent a bag fee, with the money going to retailers to cover their costs.
If the City gives final approval to the ordinance next month, it would take effect this summer.
Ojai would become the first city in the county to approve single use bag restrictions.
The goal is to try to get people to be more environmentally friendly, by using reusable shopping bags.
