Motorcyclist Arrested After 140 Mile An Hour Chase On 101 Freeway in Ventura, Santa Barbara Counties

Posted on Thursday, March 1, 2012 12:44am

After two chases, on two days, the CHP says it’s finally caught a motorcyclist who’s been leading officers on high speed pursuits on the South Coast.

On February 14th, a CHP officer on the northbound 101, near Johnson Drive in Ventura tried to stop a motorcyclist for speeding, but the bike accelerated to more than 100 miles an hour, and weaved through traffic.

Officers dropped the pursuit out of safety concerns, and the motorcyclist escaped.

Then, at about 7:30 yesterday morning, the same officer saw the same motorcyclist heading northbound again, on the 101 at Seaward.

The motorcycle hit speeds estimated at 140 miles an hour, and the case was again discontinued out of safety concerns.

But, CHP officers in Santa Barbara were waiting for the motorcycle, and stopped it about 8 a.m. near Garden Street.

Mitchell Ryan Pereira of Granada Hills was arrested, and taken to the Ventura County Jail, where he was booked for two counts of felony evading.
