A Santa Barbara County man is facing charges after Sheriff’s detectives say he smashed a transient in the head with a rock at a beach in Isla Vista, seriously injuring him.
It happened just before 4 p.m. Friday, near Del Playa Drive and El Embarcadero. Investigators say Brian Michael Pipkin picked up a rock, at and hit the 54 year old man in the head without any apparent motive.
Pipkin was arrested a short distance away from the scene of the attack and the 33-year-old man is charged with felony battery, and assault with a deadly weapon.
