Naval Base Ventura County is getting a new commanding officer today.
Captain Lawrence Vasquez will take over command of the facility in a ceremony this morning from Captain James McHugh, who is retiring after 26 years of service in the Navy.
Vasquez is a naval aviator who commanded helicopter squadrons, and recently served in a joint military/civilian reconstruction team in Afghanistan.
