Ventura County Sheriff’s Deputy Fires Shots At SUV After He Says Fleeing Vehicle Veers Towards Him

Posted on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 12:19am

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department is investigating what it’s calling a confrontation by an off-duty deputy with some thieves on his Moorpark property, in which shots were fired.

The Sheriff’s Department says the deputy encountered the thieves just before 10 p.m. Monday night, on the 13300 block of Broadway Road, in Moorpark.

The deputy says he tried to stop the thieves as they fled in an SUV.  He says after the vehicle sped in his direction, he opened fire.

The vehicle then left the area.  There’s no word on whether anyone inside the vehicle was hit.

The deputy was unhurt.  The thieves are still at large.
