Chemical Release In Thousand Oaks Neighborhood Injures Two Teens

Wednesday, February 22, 2012 3:55pm

Ventura County firefighters, and Sheriff’s deputies say what they first thought was a hazardous materials incident in a Thousand Oaks neighborhood is actually a crime scene.

It happened just before 3 p.m. Wednesday, on the 1600 block of Marian Avenue.

Fire department officials say following a chemical release which apparently occurred in a vehicle, two injured teens drove themselves to Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center, briefly causing a contamination concern.

Officials say the situation at the hospital was quickly brought under control.

A third teen was decontaminated in the neighborhood.

Authorities say the chemical was a white powdery substance, but they aren’t sure exactly what yet.  They now think it wasn’t as dangerous as initially feared.
