Details surrounding the controversial dismissal of the president of Santa Barbara City College are starting to emerge.
The website “Noozhawk” obtained a copy of a letter from the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges to the college district. which charged that the district’s board bungled the affair, violating its own policies, and possibly state open meeting laws.
The board put President Andreea Serban on paid administrative leave last year for the remainder of her contract, and although not making it clear exactly why, it was apparent there were major differences over management philosophy.
College officials said they had received the report from the commission, and were formulating a response before making it public.
While the Commission is critical of SBCC trustees, it stopped short of the action it’s taken in Ventura County. It’s put the three community college campuses on probation because of problems it’s identified with board procedures.
