Ventura County Finally Finds New Administrator To Oversee Pension Fund Operations

Posted on Thursday, February 9, 2012 1:57pm

Ventura County finally is getting a new administrator to oversee its more than three billion dollar employee pension fund, ending a long search to fill the post.

Donald Kendig will take over the top slot with Ventura County’s Board of Retirement in March.

He’s currently the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District’s Business Manager.

The agency’s board of directors conducted two unsuccessful searches for a new administrator, and finally decided to informally look for candidates for the post.

One of the issues was salary, with some candidates turning down the job because they felt the salary wasn’t in line with industry standards for the job.

Kendig will be paid more than $150,000 a year.

It has been vacant since January of 2011.

The last administrator resigned over salary, and management issues.
