A noise coming from a parked railroad tanker car caused a scare in Ventura Tuesday afternoon.
Someone noticed a hissing sound coming from the car, which was parked on a siding near the 2000 block of Channel Drive just before 3 p.m. yesterday. The Ventura County Fire Department, and Police department closed access to the area, shutting down Vista Del Mar Drive, and a hazmat team was deployed with air monitoring equipment. It determined there was no dangerous vapor present.
A mechanical problem with the rail car caused the hissing sound, and railroad workers were called to the scene to fix the problem.
