The Oxnard City Council moved to appoint its Assistant City Manager as Interim City Manager, in the wake of the Council’s suspension of its top non-elected official.
Karen Burnham was unanimously appointed to the post last night (2/7).
The move comes after the Council last week decided to put longtime City Manager Ed Sotelo on indefinite paid administrative leave.
It’s unclear what will happen to him, because he has a more than a year left on his contract.
That decision came after a series of closed door review sessions by the Council of the City Manager over the last few months.
In a statement last week, the Council said the action came as a result of differing management views for the city.
A year and a half ago ago, Sotelo filed a harassment claim against Mayor Tom Holden.
This is the latest controversy for Oxnard’s municipal government, which has been the focus of a still underway probe by the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.
The DA’s office hasn’t filed charges, or implicated any current, or past employees, and officials aren’t commenting on the focus of their investigation.
