UCSB Student Arrested For Firebombing Of Sheriff’s Department Station In Isla Vista

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Detectives say they’ve arrested a 23 year old UCSB student for a New Year’s Day firebombing of the Sheriff’s Department station in Isla Vista.  Investigators say they think Kevin Keiper acted alone when he threw a homemade Molotov cocktail at the building, which is on the 6500 block of Trigo Road.  No one was hurt, but the building was damaged.  (See video below of attack)

Detectives aren’t saying whether they think he was involved on an earlier attack on the same building, on November 15th, in which two of the homemade explosive devices were thrown at the station.  Keiper is being held at the Santa Barbara County Jail on a charge of  felony arson of an inhabited dwelling.

Investigators aren’t talking about what they think motivated the attack. On October 5th, the UCSB student was one of several “Occupy Santa Barbara” protesters arrested in De la Guerra Plaza, for violating a city ordinance which closes it to the public at 10 p.m.
