It took 15 years, but a long running missing persons case in Santa Barbara has finally been closed.
In May of 1997, a transient named Danny Watkins went to Santa Barbara police, saying his fiancé had disappeared from a homeless shelter. Police searched unsuccessfully for the 38 year old woman.
A Santa Barbara Police sergeant who recently ran across the case discovered that a person matching the description was living in Los Angeles.
He contacted her, and she confirmed she was the missing woman, but said she had broken up with Watkins, and didn’t know she was the object of a search. She asked that her name not be released.
Meanwhile, when police tried to contact Watkins, to let him know the woman was safe, they discovered he had passed away in a Charleston, West Virginia homeless shelter in 2001.
