Security Camera Photos Lead To Arrest Of Man For Raping Unconscious Woman In Santa Barbara Parking Lot Elevator

Posted on Monday, January 30, 2012 4:32pm

A routine review of security camera photos led to the arrest of a man for an hour long sexual assault on an unconscious woman in a City of Santa Barbara parking structure elevator.

A city technician discovered the photos of the January 17th attack in a parking structure on the 900 block of Chapala Street.  Santa Barbara Police detective say the photos show Anthony Vasquez bringing the unconscious woman into an elevator, and assaulting her over the course of an hour before fleeing. The photos show the 23 year old victim remained in the elevator unconscious for another two hours before waking up, and staggering away.

Detectives say they recognized the 19 year old man as a felon out on probation, and arrested him a short time later on five charges, ranging from rape to probation violation.   Detectives were also able to identify the victim, and connected her with the Santa Barbara Rape Crisis Center for assistance.
