New Twists, Turns In Ventura County Congressional Race

Posted on Friday, January 27, 2012 3:46pm

It’s going to take a good sized van to fit in all the people seeking a Ventura County congressional seat, with seven people now in the race.

One new person is in the race, and one previously announced candidate has dropped out of the race for the County’s new 26th District Congressional District.

The field of five Democrats shrunk by one, with Zeke Ruelas announcing he would drop out, and endorse another one of those in the field.  The retired Oxnard longshoreman says he’s now backing Steve Bennett, the current Ventura County First District Supervisor who has been endorsed by the Democratic party.

The list of Republicans seeking the post grew to three this week, with  Akiva Werbalowsky, an agricultural expert from Ojai, announcing he would seek the post.  State Senator Tony Strickland is in the race, and is expected to get the Republican Party nomination.  Ventura County Supervisor Linda Parks is also a Republican seeking the congressional seat, but says she is not running as a Republican.
