Waves up to 10 feet high hit some local beaches yesterday, and prompted the closure of the Ventura Pier for the day.
High seas kept rescue teams busy, with several reported incidents, and one rescue.
Just after nine a.m., a surfer got caught up in heavy currents in the Solimar Beach area, and needed assistance. The Ventura Harbor Patrol, firefighters, and a Ventura County Sheriff’s Department helicopter took part in the rescue effort. The woman was eventually brought to safety on a jet ski, after the currents swept her about two miles down the coast.
