Freeway Offramp In Ventura Reopened After Water Line Break Repaired

Posted on Thursday, January 19, 2012 5:38am

A major 101 Freeway offramp in Ventura is open this morning, after being closed yesterday afternoon, and evening due to a water line break which caused some street flooding.

Just before 2 p.m. yesterday, water started gurgling up through the cement cracks around the intersection of Main, and Donlon Streets.

The leak was in front of Ventura Fire Station Number Five, so as a precaution against the cement shifting, or becoming unstable fire department vehicles were moved out of the building.  City public works crews turned off the water, but that affected some businesses north of Main Street, between Telephone and Callens Streets.

The southbound 101 Freeway offramp at Main Street was closed for hours due to the problem.

City officials say an eight inch cast iron water pipe which was installed in the 1960′s failed, causing the flood.
