The race for a new congressional seat in Ventura County is expected to get even more interesting today, with a current State Senator the latest to announce his candidacy for the post.
Republican State Senator Tony Strickland of Camarillo has called a news conference for later this morning to announce he’ll seek the 26th District post.
He’ll be the latest to join a very crowded field, which already includes five Democrats, and one Republican. Among the best known candidates are two current Ventura County Supervisors, Steve Bennett and Linda Parks. Bennett is a Democrat, and Parks a Republican, although Parks says she’s running as an independent.
Strickland is well known in Ventura County politics, serving close to a decade as an Assemblyman, and State Senator for the region.
The new 26th Congressional District includes most of Ventura County, except for Simi Valley, which will be a part of the Santa Clarita based 25th District.
