One of the largest foundations on the South Coast says it had a banner year in 2011, giving out $15 million dollars in grants to more than1700 nonprofits.
The Santa Barbara Foundation says it capped the year with $2.8 million dollars in discretionary grants to 58 organizations.
Foundation officials say in the face of continuing economic problems, the money was more important than ever, especially for heath and human service programs.
