State Assembly Member Currently Deployed Overseas In Military Looking At Run For New Assembly Seat

Posted on Friday, January 6, 2012 10:45am

The wife of a state assemblyman from Ventura County who’s a Navy reservist currently deployed in Afghanistan has taken out papers on his behalf for a new Assembly run.

Jeff Gorell was elected in November of 2010 to represent the 37th District, but was deployed to Afghanistan last March.  He’s expected to return home this March.

Laura Gorell took out papers in her husband’s name for the new 44th Assembly District, which includes Moorpark, Thousand Oaks, Camarillo, Oxnard, and Port Hueneme.  The Assembly districts have changed as the result of the U.S. Census, and then reapportionment last year.

State law allows him to grant power of his attorney to take out election paperwork in his name because he’s deployed in the military overseas.
