Suspected DUI Driver Injures Oxnard Police Officer

Posted on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 10:33am

An Oxnard Police officer suffered a foot injury when a vehicle he was trying to reroute away from the scene of a traffic accident refused to stop.

The officer was at the intersection of Ventura Road, and Ninth Street just after 7:30 last night conducting traffic control when a westbound vehicle northbound on Ninth ignored an order to stop, and headed into the accident scene.  As an officer approached the vehicle, it stopped on Ventura Road, but then suddenly sped away, injuring the officer’s foot.

The injury is being described as minor.

The vehicle was found a short distance away from the scene.  46 year old Juan Martinez was arrested for assault on a police officer, DUI, and child endangerment.  Officers say the child endangerment charge comes from the fact there was a five year old child in the rear seat of the vehicle at the time of the incident who wasn’t in a child car seat.
