Santa Barbara Police say they’ve arrested a father and son team that owns an auto dealership on fraud, and tax evasion charges.
Investigators say 71 year old Chester Lee Taylor, and 41 year old Chester Adam Taylor were arrested Wednesday (12/28) on 58 felony charges including state tax evasion, grand theft, and embezzlement. They own Montecito Motors Incorporated. Police detectives say the men concealed the sale of cars left with them on consignment, telling victims the vhicles hadn’t sold when in reality they had changed hands months, or even years earlier. As a part of the fraud, investigators say the men forged signatures, and illegally obtained duplicate titles.
Police say in all, the men stole more than a million dollars from 26 different victims, and used the money for things like mortgage payments, and credit card payments. The arrests were the result of an investigation by police, the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office, and the State Franchise Tax Board.
