It’s not getting all the hype of what became known as “Carmageddon”, when the 405 Freeway in Los Angeles was closed over the summer so an old bridge could be demolished.
But, the 101 Freeway in Ventura County will be closed overnight tonight, and again tomorrow night so an old bridge can be removed.
The 101 will be closed in both directions at Rice Avenue, in Oxnard starting at 11 tonight, until 5 a.m. tomorrow for demolition of the old Rice overcrossing. A new bridge built adjacent to the old one opened a few days ago.
Traffic will be rerouted off the freeway, onto surface streets during the closure.
The same thing will happen Thursday night into Friday morning, for the removal of what’s left of the bridge.
The demolition is part of a major Rice Avenue interchange improvement project which is expected to be completed around the middle of next year.
