An attorney in Ventura County who pled no contest to charges he stole more than a half million dollars from the estate of a client is facing similar new charges today, and is now behind bars without the possibility of bail.
Russell Takasugi was charged with five new counts in connection with his handling of another estate of a deceased client.
Prosecutors say the Simi Valley attorney spent hundreds of thousands of dollars belonging to the estate of Hazel McVey, a Chatsworth woman who died in 1995. They say he forged signatures, and laundered checks.
That’s on top of the early case, involving 34 felony counts, to which he pled no contest.
Takasugi was already waiting to be sentenced for his earlier charges, and if convicted of all counts could face up to 16 years in prison.
