A milestone has been reached in a major freeway interchange project in Ventura County.
A new bridge over the 101 Freeway at Rice, and Santa Clara Avenues in Oxnard is now open.
It’s part of a much larger project which won’t be fully completed until next summer, but the partial bridge opening, along with a new stoplight, are expected to help ease traffic congestion in the area.
The new bridge will eventually have three lanes in each direction.
Next week, the freeway will be closed during the overnight hours to allow the old bridge, which is adjacent to the new one, to be demolished.
