Ventura County, and some of its cities are upgrading their ability to keep residents up to date during a major emergency, like a brushfire.
The County is replacing its reverse 9-1-1 system which can deliver mass messages rapidly to one which not only has a larger capacity, but one which is multi-media, and can also deliver text messages and e-mail.
You can also register your cell phone to get messages.
The new system will go into effect in January, and cost the county about $100,000 in its first year in operation.
