Santa Barbara County is looking at charging a fee for special events on public right of way which require special permits.
Currently, the County doesn’t charge for permits which require review like festivals, parades, marathons, farmers markets, and car shows.
Some of the events can take extensive staff time to review.
The Public Works Department is looking at a staggered fee schedule, based on the size of the event, and whether it a recurring event.
It’s part of ongoing efforts by the County to try to get the users of specific services to cover the costs.
Santa Barbara County Supervisors are expected to hold a public hearing on the proposal next month.
