A community college district on the South Coast is looking at shaking up the way its Board of Trustees is elected.
The Santa Barbara Community College District currently has seven trustees who are elected at large.
The proposal trustees are set to vote on this week calls for the district to be divided up into seven distinct areas, with each district electing its own trustee who has to live within its boundaries.
The goal is to create districts with equal population, in an effort to allow voters to be better represented, with trustees who are more accountable to them.
It’s been a rocky year for the district, with trustees replacing the college’s President.
Trustees are scheduled to discuss, and vote on the proposal at their 4 p.m. Thursday meeting at Santa Barbara City College’s administration building.
