Cost Cutting Moves Mean Many Santa Barbara County Offices To Close During Holiday Period

Posted on Monday, December 12, 2011 3:47pm

Cost cutting move by financially pressed Santa Barbara County mean that most county offices, except those providing essential services, will be closed from Christmas through New Year’s.

Most Santa Barbara County offices will be closed from Friday, December 23rd until Tuesday, January 3rd.

The Sheriff’s Department, Fire Department, Public Health, Social Services, Mental Health, Emergency Management, and Public Works offices will remain open.

The Registrar of Voters office will be open one day only during the period,  on Friday, December 30th for candidate filings.

The closures are a part of wage concessions made by employee groups, with  some workers taking unpaid furloughs to help save the county more than $13 million dollars during the current fiscal year.
