Ventura County will apply for a federal loan, and raise water rates to try to replace old, rusting water pipes in Somis.
County officials say the water in the community is safe, but it sometimes has a brownish tinge to it due to rust which can stain fabric. The price tag for replacing the pipes is estimtaed to be in the $10 million dollar range, so officials are hoping a combination of money from a low interest loan, and rate hikes will cover costs of fixing the system which serves more than a thousand customers.
