The commander of Naval Base Ventura County has announced plans to retire. Captain Jim McHugh says he’ll step down in February, after more than a quarter of a century in the Navy.
McHugh is a veteran Navy pilot who has been commander of the base for nearly two years. he plans to stay in Ventura County after his retirement.
The Navy has named Captain Larry Vasquez to take over command of the facility next year.
