California Lutheran University, in Thousand Oaks has received a major federal grant to train teachers to help students with hearing issues.
The U.S. Department of Education made a $1.2 million dollar grant to CLU’s Graduate School of Education. The money will help prepare dozens of new credentialed teachers with specialized training for hard of hearing, or deaf students. There’s a statewide shortage of teachers with training to deal with hearing issues, while at the same time the number of students needing this type of assistance has grown by 26% during the last five years.
CLU is the parent of KCLU Radio.
